Questions to ask a hair or scalp provider
Take this list to your consultation. A provider who takes you seriously will be glad to answer.
- What is your license or training, and who will actually see me?
- Can you prescribe treatment yourself, or would you refer me to a doctor or dermatologist?
- What does your assessment include, and what are you looking for?
- What does each option you suggest involve, step by step?
- How long before anyone can tell how it is going?
- What will it cost in total, and can I have that in writing?
- What happens if I stop partway through?
Things your provider may ask about
Expect questions about your history, so it helps to think about them ahead of time.
- When did you first notice the change?
- Do you have photos from before?
- What medicines or supplements do you take?
- Have you been ill, had surgery, or been under strain recently?
- What do you put on your hair and scalp each week?
Bring your notes on your phone or on paper. Share what you are comfortable sharing.
When to pause before you agree
Most providers explain things clearly and let you decide in your own time. If yours does not, that is worth noticing. Be careful if you are pushed to sign up for a package before you leave, or told a treatment will bring your hair back. Be careful, too, if no one looks at your scalp before suggesting something, or if it is unclear who would actually carry out a procedure. It is reasonable to ask for everything in writing and walk away to think.
A provider in or near Dallas can look at what is going on and talk you through possible next steps.
